The open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA – Obamacare), ended 4-15-14 for 2014. If you did not secure health insurance by this date, the NEXT open enrollment period starts on Nov. 15, 2014 for the Jan. 1, 2015 effective date.
If you do not have health coverage, the only way to purchase it, for the rest of this year, is if you have what’s called a “qualifying event”. This would include losing your health benefits through your employer (i.e. laid off, etc.) marriage, birth of a child, moving out of your area of residence and other types of events. The one point we would make is don’t wait when it comes to finding out about health insurance. It is too important to have coverage in the event you have an unexpected need.
