California was one of the states that was on the ball last month when the Affordable Care Act finally became a reality. The state opened its health insurance exchange to allow citizens to apply for new affordable policies and expanded Medicaid coverage through the government. By the 15th of last month, almost 100,000 residents of the state had submitted their applications for coverage, which is good news because open enrollment won’t last forever.

California’s version of the marketplace is Cover California, and you have until March 31st to insure your family or risks penalties for not having coverage when it comes time to pay taxes. However, your new plans can begin as early as January 1st if you apply for insurance immediately.

However, you don’t have to head online if you have questions about new insurance options or changes to your existing plan. Your insurance agent can give you guidance when it comes to applying for a plan through the marketplace or reviewing your existing health insurance coverage.

Feel free to contact the certified agents at Randy Jones Insurance if you want to know how the changes will affect you personally.
