Some Home Safety Tips

Now that the warm weather is here, you may find yourself packing up your bags for your next summer trip. To keep your house safe and secure while you are away, keep these home tips in mind:

  • Put a hold on your mail – having your mail pile up in your mailbox is a sure sign to burglars that you are away. Go to the post office and put a hold on your mail, and your daily paper.
  • Trust a neighbor – while you should not spread the word around that you are heading out on vacation, let at least one neighbor know. Trusting a neighbor to keep an eye on your home while you are away can help to keep your home and assets safe.
  • Keep a light on – install a timer on one of the lights in your home so that your house does not stay dark the entire time that you’re gone. Try to find a timer that will turn the lights on at different times, just in case someone is watching your house.
  • Park your car – an empty driveway is a sure sign that nobody is home. Keep a car parked in your driveway, or ask one of your neighbors to park one of their cars in your driveway so it looks like someone is home.
