Many car shoppers are so excited about their new purchase that they forget there are some planning tasks that can help with your auto buying decision. We understand that first-time car shoppers may not know which measures to take, which is why we have noted some helpful tips for you. Once at the dealership, they will ask for proof of insurance. If you decide to go through with the purchase, your existing auto insurance will suffice for temporary coverage. We recommend giving us a call prior to your “shopping outing” with a couple of the types of vehicles you are considering. We can run quotes for you based on your current policy and give you an idea of the increase in premium you may incur with each type of car. This might help soften your overall “sticker-shock” when purchasing. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Again, calling us ahead of time with the year, make and model of the car(s) you are considering will allow us to provide you with an estimate of how much the car will affect your auto insurance premium.
- When you call we can also discuss additional Loan/Lease GAP insurance coverage, which protects your newly purchased or leased vehicle as soon as you drive it off the lot. And it’s very inexpensive! Often only $12 to $26 per 6-month term.
- If you previously did not have collision and comprehensive coverage, this preventative measure will ensure that the bank approves your loan for the car.
- If you happen to find yourself at the dealership and don’t have your proof of insurance with you, showing full coverage, just give us a call and we’ll fax it to the dealership for you!
