As families celebrate the holidays, festivities may include decorating, gift giving, music, lively conversation, and decadent desserts. For a new favorite holiday recipe this year, consider baking a Chocolate Walnut Tart. Leslie Jones, of Randy Jones Insurance, recommends this simple creation that she enjoys with her family during the holidays.

Ingredients include:

9-inch pie shell – unbaked

4 tbs unsalted, softened butter

¼ cup brown sugar

2 tbs all-purpose flour

3 large eggs

½ cup corn syrup – light

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp salt

¼ cup bourbon

1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:  Heat your oven to 350 degrees. In a mixer (with paddle attachments), cream together these ingredients:  butter, brown sugar, and flour. Add 3 eggs, one at a time. Next, add the corn syrup, vanilla and salt. Add the bourbon. Finally, add the walnuts and chocolate chips.

Pour this mixture into the unbaked pie shell. Bake for 1¼ hours or until the pie surface becomes golden brown. You’ll want to cool the pie for 30 minutes before refrigerating it.  You can chill the pie for 2 hours or overnight. For a great topping, serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.  The Chocolate Walnut Tart should serve 6-8 guests.
