National S’mores Day

This Sunday is National S’mores Day, which is the perfect excuse to break out your marshmallows and graham crackers.

To build the perfect s’mores, all you need is a roasted marshmallow, a piece of a chocolate bar, and a graham cracker to hold it all together. You may also want to bring along a napkin, since they can get a little messy.

Even though the beginning of s’mores is credited to entrepreneur Alec Barnum, the first recorded recipe for the tasty treat can be traced back to 1927 in a publication of Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts described the sweet treat under the name “Some More” and it is not known when the name was shortened to “s’mores.”

The recipe for traditional s’mores has been changed over the years, with people adding peanut butter, marshmallow cream, or peanut butter cup candies to make the treat a little more special.

If you are looking forward to making a classic s’mores with your loved ones this summer, the recipe can be found online.
