It’s summer and the drive’n is easy! So you should make sure you’re well protected whether you’re rented or owned recreational vehicle is a luxury motorhome, travel trailer, 5th wheel or pop up camper. Insuring these vehicles to cover them while driving and stationary is different than a simple extension of your auto policy coverages.

Many people call asking if their auto insurance will extend the existing coverage to their motorhome or camper or a rented motorhome. More often than not it does not! Lots of factors come in to play such as: the length of time you plan on being gone and/or renting a rec vehicle, the weight and type of vehicle, who will be driving it, where and for how long you will be “parked”, what about your personal property in the rec vehicle and what happens if someone is injured while in your vehicle? We recommend you give us a call prior to “taking off” for the open road so we can answer any questions you might have. Here are some additional safety tips to help you get the most out of your RV.

  • Check to make sure all doors are closed and everything is securely latched before driving away.
  • RV breaks are not as strong as regular breaks so when you break, break easy.
  • Be careful when turning your RV. Make sure to approach turns slowly so you remain in control.
  • Make sure you’re aware of your RV’s height so you don’t hit lower than expected bridges, overpasses or trees.
