Fall is here which means it is time to prepare for winter. While California winters tend to be less harsh than many areas of the nation, it is still a good idea to conduct some basic fall home maintenance chores. Here are some helpful tips for winterizing your home:

  • In order for rain to pass through your gutters and downspouts, they must be clear of debris. Give both your gutters and downspouts a thorough cleaning to ensure their functionality.
  • Even though California winters aren’t as extreme as in the Midwest, they are chilly for us Californians. Be sure to have your HVAC system looked at by a professional to ensure everything is running properly.
  • Once you have had your HVAC system maintained, you will want to ensure that air and heat are being distributed properly and efficiently. You’ll also want to fix any holes or cracks in the caulking and weather stripping of all doors and windows.
  • Most importantly, change the batteries of your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
