Summer Pool Safety

Relaxing next to your backyard pool is the best way to beat the heat this summer. However, it is also important to consider the dangers that are associated with pools. Keep these summer pool safety tips in mind to ensure that you have a fun and safe season.

  • Install a fence – your pool should have a self-locking gate around the entire perimeter that is at least four feet tall. Also make sure that there are no tables or chairs near the fence that children can climb onto to get into the pool area.
  • Check your drains – before you allow anyone into the pool area, check to make sure that all the drains are working properly. If you find any cracked or missing drain covers, do not allow anyone in the pool until they are replaced.
  • Provide supervision – all small children should be properly supervised when in the pool area. Children who do not have strong swimming skills should have the proper safety equipment when in the water, such as a life jacket.
